Project Description

Yukon Fall Colors Photography Workshop

Best Yukon Fall Colors and Northern Lights Photography Workshop

Just hearing the name Yukon conjures imagery of a wild and beautiful wilderness. The Yukon is indeed full of rich history and unique geography. That makes it one of the most rewarding places on the continent to photograph nature and wildlife.

You may be surprised to know that it is not always -20 in the Yukon. The fall is actually quite pleasant and can be warmer than the northern US at times. This will not be hard to guess if you know me, but we are going in the warmer season. I don’t do cold very well!

The Yukon is known for its fantastic wildlife as well as incomparable landscapes. We have arranged to spend some time with some of the more dangerous wildlife in the Yukon. We will not be going off the road looking for something that could eat us, but rather a Nature Center. It’s safer for us, and we can make some “impossible” wildlife images.

There is no wrong time to see the Northern Lights in the Yukon, but in the fall, guess what! We won’t freeze out there getting our cameras clicking on the lights.

Expert instruction and picture-postcard perfect locations await you in the Yukon. Come photograph with us. You Will Be Amazed!

Upon arrival in Whitehorse. you can grab a shuttle that will take you to our hotel. We will meet you in the hotel lobby when the shuttle drops you off.

Be prepared to go out and photograph the aurora. Before we get you checked into your rooms we will discuss whether or not the weather and aurora are optimal for photography.

Today we depart for the Ibex Mountains. An area approximately 40 minutes from Whitehorse. We will spend the next few days in the mountain range called the Ibex Mountains. There is a lot to see and photograph in this area. Simple fall colour photographs at the lake, streams coming out of the mountains that separate the golden meadows, and the crimson red fireweed.

We own the lodge for our time there, All activities will be optional. You can choose to sit on the deck, drink some wine, and relax… or participate in the walks and hikes in this area. It’s all up to you.

We will lead an excursion each sunrise and sunset to a different location.

You can also talk to the lodge and book yourself an optional horseback ride up into God’s country. Get a look at the expansive meadows up in the mountains. If you’re lucky you might just see Grizzly roaming the meadows and fattening up on berries and marmots.

This area allows us for some of the best landscapes to photograph the aurora. We can choose from the forest, the meadows with streams, or the lakes as our foregrounds to photograph the aurora if she decides to come out to play

This morning we will depart for the Yukon Wildlife Preserve. Today is your opportunity to get up close and personal with many of the wildlife that calls Yukon home. We will be spending the morning at this facility. Longer if the group decides they want to stay to get better photos.

Once we leave the facility we will grab a bite to eat and have some downtime. This will allow us to look through your images, or give you time for a nap.

Tonight we will head out to a few lakes north of the city to photograph the fall colors and (fingers crossed) the reflections in the water. We will stay in this area until the sun goes down, hoping to catch the aurora in this area. This could be a late night, but OHHHH so worth it if mother nature co-operates

Today we head west of Whitehorse. Today will be a full-day excursion into one of the gems of the Yukon. Our departure will depend on the night before. If we are back at the hotel early on the 14th, expect to leave early. If we were out late, we will leave mid-day to allow you to rest and regenerate your batteries (camera and yourself)

Today you will see mountains, meadows that appear if they have been painted gold, fall color birch, and streams that have carved their twists and turns over the centuries.

Schedule your departures on September 16th. Flights start departing at 6am. There is also another flight that leaves at 10 am. That will get you home the same day.

We will be staying in a “chic modern” boutique hotel in the 15th AR, With thousands of reviews above 4 stars, its quite nice and convenient to much of out photography. It’s only 20 minute walk to the Eiffel Tower. On my last trip, I had no compalints. I like that it only has 40 rooms and old school service. Oh and an elevator!

They do offer airport pickups for a fee, book that directly.

Check back later, it’s way too soon to tell you what to expect.

I’ve been very passively advising my clients to purchase travel insurance for a while, but lately it seems like there have been multiple people having travel issues. Some have lost their deposits and sometimes even the cost of the entire trip!

Based on my client’s experience, I cannot stress more strongly how crucial it is to purchase travel insurance. Like I said before, and here it comes again, there is never a way to predict what is going to happen when you are booking trips months and years into the future.

You can read more about my thoughts about the importance of travel insurance in this blog post.
