Project Description

Namibia Dunes Best Namibia Photo Workshop

Best Namibia Photography Workshop

Namib has been a desert for 60 to 80 million years, making it the oldest desert on earth. The magnificent red sand dunes run seemingly forever and stretch to the sky. They may not be quite that tall, but a sand dune that is 20 miles long and the height of three football fields is big!
The landscape photographer’s bucket list must include the red sand dunes and petrified forests of Namibia.

The worlds’ tallest sand dunes are in Namibia, and the vivid red colors give the impression that you have left earth! The dunes are simply incredible. The dunes are not the whole story by a long shot. There are rusty shipwrecks, eerie petrified trees, unique wildlife, fascinating people, and one of the planet’s weirdest trees, the Quiver Tree.

This trip was designed to be in the most photogenic locations at the prime time of the year. Like all of our trips, your professional photographer guides will help you find the best spots. We will help you with the settings needed to create a stunning image worthy of this magical country.

We want to send you home with crazy good photography, but with improved photography skills as well.

Join this workshop, and we will create awe-inspiring images while playing in a gigantic sandbox! What could be better than that? Join us today!

You will arrive and be transported to our lodge in Windhoek and enjoy our first meal together in the beautiful surroundings. Note: the easiest way to get to Windhoek is to fly to Johannesburg (South Africa) where the group can meet, and take the same flight to Windhoek together. Details will be included in your preparation guidebook.

Today we travel to the Quiver Tree Forest, and get a chance for some astrophotography while we photograph the Milky Way with the Quiver Trees. We will have the opportunity to be out from sunset to sunrise shooting the iconic milky way and star images over the Quiver trees.

Here is a bit of inspiration.

Quiver Tree Under Milky Way Namibia Workshop

Quiver Tree Under Milky Way Namibia Workshop

We will enjoy one final morning with a visit to the Quiver Tree Forest and Devils Playground. We will be heading west through harsh but beautiful terrain which changes to vast open desert plains to a small town called Aus where you can view and photograph the Feral Horses before heading on to Lüderitz. On the way, we will have our first stop at Kholmanskop. This will give you the first chance to see this town that is being taken over by the sands.

They don’t need a vacuum, they need a shovel!

Ghost Town Namib Desert Namibia Workshop

Ghost Town Namib Desert Namibia Workshop

Today we return to the Ghost Town, Kholmanskop. We will be there at first light, and late in the day to ensure that you had the chance to explore all the buildings under different light. In between our photo sessions we will review your images so I can give you some suggestions on composition and lens choices.

From Luderitz, we travel to  – Sossusvlei where we stay inside the national park for two nights so that we can get access to Deadvlei at dawn to photograph the iconic Camel-Thorn Trees in silhouette again the red dunes. We will also have photo sessions of the surrounding dunes during our time in the beautiful Sossusvlei area. Sossusvlei is the iconic area for the Namibian dune photographs that you always see.

We will depart after one final sunrise photoshoot of the dunes. (optional helicopter flight over the dunes is available) We will head north crossing the Tropic of Capricorn, through the Gaub and Kuiseb Canyons via the Namib Gravel Plains to the coast. The Namibian coastline is known as The Skeleton Coast due to the barren areas, shipwrecks, and whale skeletons scattered on the beach. On the 25th we have scheduled a 4×4 Sandwich Harbour Excursion in the sand dunes overlooking the coastline where sand meets the ocean.

We also plan to stop at the Lichen Fields as well as the famous shipwreck between the picturesque small town of Henties Bay. From our base in the beautiful lodge at Palmwag, we’ll visit a Himba settlement. The Himba are a nomadic people who let us into their village and share aspects of their culture, giving us ample chances to capture their unique way of life.

I’ve been very passively advising my clients to purchase travel insurance for a while, but lately it seems like there have been multiple people having travel issues. Some have lost their deposits and sometimes even the cost of the entire trip!

Based on my client’s experience, I cannot stress more strongly how crucial it is to purchase travel insurance. Like I said before, and here it comes again, there is never a way to predict what is going to happen when you are booking trips months and years into the future.

You can read more about my thoughts about the importance of travel insurance in this blog post.

Or you can go get a free quote and book your vital travel insurance.
