I’ve recently re-located to the Greater Portland area and have set about exploring the myriad photography opportunities. Up today was the park at Dawson Creek business complex. And was it ever a blast! From what I can tell this idyllic little park is not an official city park, but rather part of the business complex environment. The Hillsboro Library is there and there are a couple of mid size ponds that are surrounded by a paved boardwalk. I was the only guy with camera, but there were others with dogs, walking shoes or bicycles. Nothing tricky about this, I just wandered the paths listening for and watching for some birds to photograph. It’s a very birdy spot with lots of them sining and flying around. There were a few ducks (Mallards, Buffleheads, Widgeon) and the ubiquitous Canada Goose. I saw a few warblers that were new to me and didn’t get an photo to sort out what it was. A few other passerines and of course Red-winged Blackbirds in the marshy parts of the pond…
I wish I could tell you that it took me hours of hard labor to make these images, but really I was only there for about an hour just sort of lazily strolling and shooting what ever was in range. I can image getting some great things with a bit more time. My only tip is that it does feel like a morning location.
