Amur Leopards are incredibly rare with less than 50 left in the wild. With that proximity to extinction they are nearly impossible to photograph in the wild, we were quite fortunate that one of the captive animals from my recent photography workshop was a magnificent Amur Leopard. Such an incredible animal!
I’ve been photographing this Amur Leopard since he was a kitten in the summer of 2012 and even then he was so sure of himself, you knew he was an apex predator. Check out this photo of the Amur Leopard kitten.

- can run at speeds of up to 37mph (59.5kph)
- can leap more than 19 feet (5.8m) horizontally and up to 10 (3m) feet vertically
- weighs 70-100lbs (32-45k)

One of the enrichment activities that this Amur Leopard loves is chasing and catching a lure. It is surprising to me that he plays with toys just like playing with your cat at home, well except for the 100 lb part and those teeth!
