Well I was going to post a mixed bag of terns today and then I discovered that several species had their own collective nouns and well that settled it, I had to make a post just for the Royal Terns.

I was at Ft. DeSoto looking for something to photograph and came upon a very cooperative flock err, Ternery of Terns! The light was right and the wind was right and that meant FLIGHT shots!

You can see all of my tern images as well as order prints…HERE.

In case you were curious:

  • Royal Tern feeds by plunge-diving for fish
  • Young Royal Terns leave the nest scrape within one day after hatching
  • Wingspan 49.2–53.1 in (125–135 cm) and Weigh 12.3–15.9 oz (350–450 g)

Here is a map showing where I was photographing these and a few other species of terns.
