Brown-hooded Parrot Photography Costa Rica

Costa Rica is home to 16 of the world’s 330 species of parrots and I was able to photograph a couple of them. This one is the Brown-hooded Parrot. They would come in raucous groups of 6 to 15 and then they would almost as quickly leave. The groups that I saw were a mix of mature and juvenile birds and on this trip the vast majority were juvenile birds. You can tell the younger birds by the pale brown heads. You can order prints and see all of my parrots and parakeets…HERE. In case you were curious:
  • The collective nouns for parrots are company, pandemonium, prattle and flock.
  • 8.3 in (21 cm) long and weighs 5.8 oz (165 g)
  • eggs are laid in an unlined nest, usually a natural cavity in a tree
