Ft. DeSoto is a Migrating Bird Magnet

Female Rose-breasted Grosbeak - Jeff Wendorff PhotographerThis time of the year birders and bird photographers from all over the world convene for our annual “convention” to photograph the birds as they migrate through Florida. I see  people like Allen, Carl, and Lyn only once a year and its here… The birds are not trying out for a remake of that Hitchcock movie or Friday the 123rd, that isn’t blood on their beaks or feathers, its mulberry juice. After flying across the Gulf of Mexico, they arrive here to re-fuel for the rest of their trip home. I can’t remember the last time I saw a Barn Swallow perched. They always seem to be in perpetual and very fast motion. Now I’ve seen two in the last two weeks…and even better got to photograph them. Wonder what new bird will be next?
